Nixon tells furniture store customers to call with problems
COLUMBIA-Attorney General Jay Nixon released a statement Wednesday asking customers of Ashley Furniture store to alert his office if outstanding furniture orders are not received. The store, located at 5170 Bull Run Drive, closed unexpectedly Tuesday, prompting complaints to Nixon's office. Store Manager Debbie Pollard said the store will reopen in a couple of days. It closed because of a change in ownership, she said. Pollard said that although the closing has confused some customers, deliveries are still being made. A spokesman for Nixon said the attorney general did not want to see a repeat of a similar closing of an Ashley Furniture store in Joplin. Shortly after that store closed in May 2007, more than 230 customers filed complaints with Nixon's office concerning issues with delivery of purchases.
Mississippi communities build, retool sportsplexes
OXFORD (AP) The principals don't draw eight-figure salaries, but youth sports can be big business. Participants may not all be star athletes, but they may be building a lifelong habit of exercise. Then there's the truism that 12-year-olds wearing baseball uniforms are less likely to wear jail jumpsuits later in life. .
Our spin on the news
Well, in a nation that claims to appreciate science and knowledge, Qabdaya says, it's hard not to compare one's self to the football coach paid $40,000 a month to supervise his team and lead it to one defeat after another, in the case of the Egyptian national team. “We exert as much effort, I swear!" Qabdaya wrote. “We read and study these theses, then go back to their references and come up with a plan to discuss the research and prepare questions for the candidates. We spend time analyzing their answers." How, he asked, is that any less work or any less valuable to society than what the coach does for the Egyptian national team? Sir, we're convinced, but we have no pounds let alone dollars left for you. Behind bars PICKED UP FOR a crime you did or didn't commit? Well, we have a little bit of good news for you.
